Chromebook’ computers launched

?Google has unveiled the first two computers that will use its own operating system, Chrome OS. Made by Samsung and Acer, the devices will launch in seven countries next month. “A little less than two years ago we set out to make computers much better. Today, we’re announcing the first Chromebooks from our partners, Samsung and Acer. These are not typical notebooks,” said Linus Upson, Vice President of Engineering and Sundar Pichai, Senior Vice President. ? The Samsung’s laptop called Series 5 features an Intel N570 1.66Ghz Dual Core processor, 16GB of storage and a 12.1-inch screen and battery life will last??a whole day. The Acer product has similar specifications with a slightly smaller screen. Optional 3G connectivity means users can be online all the time, although Google also announced enhanced offline access would be delivered later in the summer for Google Docs, Calendar and Gmail. Sergey Brin, Google’s co-founder, described it as “a new model of computing”, although he added that he didn’t think “there’s anything inherently wrong with Windows”. ? For education and business users, Google also announced subscription plans that will provide both hardware and software to users for monthly fee of $20 and $28. Google also announced that for web applications for small programmes to enhance Chrome?and can take just five per cent of revenue. On Chomebook computers, the photos and music can be uploaded directly to the internet and then accessed across a range of devices. ? Google’s Chrome OS is based on the Chrome web browser that is now used by 160m people around the world according to latest statistics. Its aim is to encourage people to use web-based applications, and Google claims that most tasks can be accomplished online.
